  • 16 Jul. 2023, our paper “Data-Driven Security and Stability Rule in High Renewable Penetrated Power System Operation” has been published on Proceedings of the IEEE. It is our second paper on Proceedings of the IEEE. It reviews the research progress of how to embed security rules into power system operation optimization using machine learning methods. It is a fast-growing area in power system research.

 
  • 01 Nov. 2022, we got the Young Scientists Project of the National Key Research and Development Project: The structure and evolutionary path of the new electric power system towards carbon peak and carbon neutralization (2022YFB2403300), which last for three years. It is my first time to be the PI of National Key R&D Project. In the project we will continue our research on china power system structure towards carbon peak and carbon neutralization.

  • 08 June 2022, our paper “Cost increase in the electricity supply to achieve carbon neutrality in China” has been published on Nature Communication. It is our first paper published on Nature Communication. It is our preliminary research result on the China power system structure under carbon neutrality. We will continue working on this.

  • 01 Nov. 2021, we got the NSFC-Joint fund for enterprise innovation and development: Research on mechanism and key technology of information energy deep coupling for sustainable ICT, It is an NSFC-China Mobile United Joint funded project. Prof. Song Ci is the PI and I am the Sub-task PI.

  • 01 Sep. 2021, we got one NSFC project: Planning and operation of low inertia power system considering frequency security. It is a general project of National Natural Science Foundation of China. I am the PI of this project. It is our first attempt to incorporate some power system dynamics in our planning and operation study!

  • 10 June 2020, our paper “Multienergy Networks Analytics: Standardized Modeling, Optimization and Low Carbon Analysis” has been published on Proceedings of IEEE. It is a big deal since it is the first paper that I publish on Proceedings of IEEE. It mainly summarizes our research on the standardized modeling of energy hub, the network models, including power, heat, and gas steady-state and dynamic network models (electrical-analog branch model). We also explore the planning and operation methods for both district level and multiregion level energy networks. W e introduce a special technique named the carbon emission flow (CEF) model that is able to calculate the equivalent CO2 emission associated with the energy flows in multienergy networks. We also demonstrate how the technique can help multienergy networks planning and operation toward a low carbon society.

  • 21 Dec. 2019, Prof. Kang and I was interviewed by CNBC about high penetration of renewable energy in China and the multi-energy systems solution. The TV show is the third part of the Episode The ideas and innovations helping to change the way we think about energy. CNBC also airs an article reporting our work named How smart ideas are helping to accommodate China's renewable energy drive.

  • 21 Dec. 2019, Our China-UK NSFC-EPSRC project “Interactive Operation and Resilient Control to Support Power Electronics Based Smart Urban Energy Systems” is successfully approved among many competitors. The project is led by Prof. Hao Ma from Zhejiang University and Prof. Tim Green from Imperial College London. The period of the project is from Jan. 2020 to Dec. 2022.

  • 20 Dec. 2019, Our project “Key technology and engineering application of efficient modeling and optimization for large power grid dispatching” receives The First price of Ministry of Education Science and Technology Award.

  • 7 Dec. 2019, I visit the Dr. Tomislav Capuder and Ninoslav Holjevac in University of Zagreb regarding our FUTURE project. Our Ph.D student Zhenyu Zhuo and Pei Yong give talks to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. It is my great pleasure to collaborate with the team in University of Zagreb. We will continue a two-year project named FIRE (Flexible integrated demand response in multi-energy system). Really looking forward to that!

  • 6 Dec. 2019, I visit the Prof. Goran Strbac and Dr. Fei Teng in Imperial College London regarding our NSFC-JPI project and joint center. I give two talks named “Topology Identification and Line Parameter Estimation for non-PMU Distribution Network” and “Data driven power flow linearization”.

  • 4 Dec. 2019, I attend the Instigation of Research and Innovation Partnership on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy Solutions for Cities IRES-8 project Concluding meeting in the University of Manchester. It is the first time since my 9-month study in Manchester. Lots of memories coming back!

  • 21 Nov. 2019, I attend IEEE Sustainable Power & Energy Conference, iSPEC 2019 and give a talk named Multi-energy Systems Planning for Urban Cities. It is one of the activities of our NSFC-JPI project “STEP-UP Socio-Techno-Economic Pathways for sustainable Urban energy development”.

  • 4 Aug. 2019, I go to IEEE PESGM 2019 in Atlanta from. Our Panel Session “ Ultra-High Penetration of Renewable Energy Integration” is a great success. I give two talks: Data-driven Analysis of Power System Operation Under High Renewable Energy Penetration, and Multi-energy Systems Modeling and Planning: Methodology and Application. My Ph.d student Haiyang Jiang's paper is selected in Best Paper Session.

  • 12 Apr. 2019, During the stay in Switzerland, I visit Prof. Gabriela Hug's group Power Systems Laboratory in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) and give a talk “Cloud Energy Storage: Concept, Business Model and Key Technologies”. ETH is very beautiful and Prof. Gabriela Hug's group is a very successful group!

  • 14 Feb. 2019, Our CSP research is quoted in IEEE Spectrum by the article about CSP progress in China. Actually, our CSP research has been reported by a series of websites. IEA SolarPACES reported our research on the technical economic of CSP in Jul. This special report is reproduced by AAAS EurekAlert (AAAS is famous for its journal “Science”). Our research was also reported by an energy technology news website New Energy Update on Oct.

  • From 21 Jan. to 25 Jan. 2019, I give a course in Yonsei University invited by Prof. Hur Kyeon. The title of the course is “Analytics and Optimization for Renewable Energy Integration” and my newly published book is used as textbook. I enjoy the course very much. The Professors and students in Yonsei University give me very nice impression. During the stay in Korea, I also visit Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) and give a talk “Integrating High Share of Variable Renewable Energy in Bulk Power Systems”.

  • 21 Dec. 2018, Our JPI-NSFC project “STEP-UP Socio-Techno-Economic Pathways for sustainable Urban energy development” is successfully approved among 77 competitors. The project is supported by the multilateral co-operation program of Sustainable and Liveable Cities and Urban Areas organized by JPI Urban Europe and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). The project is led by Prof. Chongqing Kang from and Prof. Richard Green. The collaboration also involves Prof. Goran Strbac and Dr Fei Teng from Imperial College London, Dr. Laurens de Vries and Dr. Simon Tindemans from Delft University of Technology, Prof. Yi Ding from Zhejiang University and Prof. Baofeng Huo from Tianjin University. The period of the project is from Mar. 2019 to Feb. 2022.

  • Dec. 2018, I am awarded as outstanding Editor of International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems (ITEES) and CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems (JPES). Thanks for the recognition of the two journals. I highly recommend you to submit papers to these two journals. The editorial process of ITEES has been improved a lot in recent years.   • 7 Nov. 2018, Our two Chinese journal papers titled “Review and Prospect of Optimal Planning and Operation of Energy Hub in Energy Internet” and “Blockchain Technique in the Energy Internet: Preliminary Research Framework and Typical Applications” are awarded as the second and third prizes of “2018 CSEE Excellent Journal Articles”, respectively.

  • 16 Nov. 2018, I visit the University of Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. I give a talk titled “Multiple energy system planning methodology and application”. It is my second time vising Zagreb. It is a very nice city!
