I am currently an tenured associate professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University.

I got B.Sc. degree of electrical engineering and Excellent Graduate Student Award from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2007. I got my Ph.D of electrical engineering, Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award and Excellent Graduate Student Award from Tsinghua University in 2012. I completed my two-year research as a postdoctor and continued to work in Tsinghua University in 2014. I was a research associate in the University of Manchester from Oct. 2010 to Jul. 2011 and a research assistant in Harvard University from Dec. 2013 to Mar 2014.

My research interests include power system planning, multi-energy systems integration, renewable energy integration, power system operation optimization, power system big data analytics.

I am an IEEE Senior Member, IET Member and Cigre Member. I have led more than 40 scientific research projects including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Research and Development Program of China, and projects from industry. I was awarded The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) Young Engineers for UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2018, China Electric Power Outstanding Young Science and Technology Talent Award, Wu Wen Jun AI Science & Technology Award Outstanding Youth Award, and Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by Chinese Association of Science and Technology in 2016. Eleven of our papers enter ESI highly cited paper. Three of our papers was selected as IEEE General Meeting Best Paper Awards. I serve as the editor of IEEE Transactions on Power System (TPWRS 2019-2022) and IEEE Power Engineering Letters (PESL 2019-2022), International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems (ITEES 2019-2020), Electric Power System Research (EPSR), CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems (CSEE JPES), Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clear Energy (MPCE),and Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems (PCMP), Proceedings of the CSEE, Automation of Electric Power Systems, Power System Technology, Electric Power Construction. I also served as guest editor of IEEE Transactions on power system, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Proceedings of CSEE. and Southern Power System Technology.

Updates

  • 01 Nov. 2022, we got an NSFC project: Urban energy system management towards resilience and carbon neutral goals, which last for four years. It is a special NSFC project for management department. It is my first time to collaborate with Prof. Dabo Guan.

  • 01 Nov. 2022, we got the Young Scientists Project of the National Key Research and Development Project: The structure and evolutionary path of the new electric power system towards carbon peak and carbon neutralization (2022YFB2403300), which last for three years. It is my first time to be the PI of National Key R&D Project. In the project we will continue our research on china power system structure towards carbon peak and carbon neutralization.

  • 22 Aug. 2022, our paper “Data-Driven Security and Stability Rule in High Renewable Penetrated Power System Operation,” has been published on Proceedings of the IEEE. It is our second paper on Proceedings of the IEEE. It reviews the research progress of how to embed security rules into power system operation optimization using machine learning method. It is a fast-growing area in power system research.

  • 08 June 2022, our paper “Cost increase in the electricity supply to achieve carbon neutrality in China” has been published on Nature Communication. It is our first paper published on Nature Communication. It is our preliminary research result on the China power system structure under carbon neutrality. We will continue working on this.

  • 01 Nov. 2021, we got the NSFC-Joint fund for enterprise innovation and development: Research on mechanism and key technology of information energy deep coupling for sustainable ICT, It is an NSFC-China Mobile United Joint funded project. Prof. Song Ci is the PI and I am the Sub-task PI.

  • 01 Sep. 2021, we got one NSFC project: Planning and operation of low inertia power system considering frequency security. It is a general project of National Natural Science Foundation of China. I am the PI of this project. It is our first attempt to incorporate some power system dynamics in our planning and operation study!

  • 10 June 2020, our paper “Multienergy Networks Analytics: Standardized Modeling, Optimization and Low Carbon Analysis” has been published on Proceedings of IEEE. It is a big deal since it is the first paper that I publish on Proceedings of IEEE. It mainly summarizes our research on the standardized modeling of energy hub, the network models, including power, heat, and gas steady-state and dynamic network models (electrical-analog branch model). We also explore the planning and operation methods for both district level and multiregion level energy networks. W e introduce a special technique named the carbon emission flow (CEF) model that is able to calculate the equivalent CO2 emission associated with the energy flows in multienergy networks. We also demonstrate how the technique can help multienergy networks planning and operation toward a low carbon society.
